Jesse T. McCann, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. McCann is fellowship trained in vitreoretinal disease and surgery from Columbia University and the Manhattan Eye, Ear, and Throat Hospital. A native of Westchester County, New York, he graduated from Dartmouth College with honors, receiving his bachelor’s degree in chemistry. While at Dartmouth,Dr.McCann was a recipient of the Merck Index Award, a prestigious recognition given to select students who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in the field of chemistry.
Dr. McCann received his Ph.D. from the University of Washington in Seattle for his work in materials chemistry, where he designed a number of novel high-performance materials for use in the aerospace industry, remote sensing, and tissue engineering. Dr. McCann then acquired his medical degree at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honors Society. He completed his internship at Greenwich Hospital in Greenwich, Connecticut, affiliated with Yale University, and finished his residency training in Ophthalmology at New York University.
Dr. McCann received fellowship training in vitreoretinal surgery at Columbia University and the Manhattan Eye, Ear, and Throat Hospital, where he conducted extensive research in diabetic eye disease, non-invasive angiography, and the use of silicone oil in ophthalmology. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, case reports, book chapters and abstracts on subjects including ocular trauma, ocular pathology, diabetic retinopathy and ocular medications, in addition to presenting his research at national and international academic conferences.
Dr. McCann is a member of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), the American Society of Retinal Specialists, the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), and the Materials Research Society.
Having recently relocated to the Sunshine State, Dr. McCann currently resides in Sarasota where he takes advantage of the many amenities the area has to offer. In his free time, he enjoys outdoor hobbies of running, swimming, fishing, and sculling.
